Avalon Cabernet Sauvignon 2005
Deep ruby colored, our 2005 wine shines in the glass. Blueberry and plum nuances from the Syrah complement the dark cherry and black raspberry characteristics of the Cabernet Sauvignon. Supple texture and forward fruit flavors are balanced and enhanced by aging in French and American barrels. Oak aging provides a lingering note of toasted oak and vanilla while giving breadth and depth on the palate. The wine should continue to develop over the next 4-7 years.
Editorial Reviews for Avalon Cabernet Sauvignon
Rich and sweet smelling this has smoky layers of toffee, butterscotch, sassafras and vanilla tones adding complexity to the red cherry fruit. Round and mouth-filling with a background medicinal, licorice tone adding depth to the bittersweet, candied red fruits on the mid-palate. This is easy-drinking and finishes with a touch of spicy plum and a hint of smoky chipotle. 86pts
I drank cases of the 2004 at 12$ a bottle. It's 16$ a bottle now and the 2005 isn't as good, not a bargain anymore.
For the price you can't beat the taste. Its a mouthful when you first drink it and may be a little heavy at first but the blend of fruit and bitterness finishes off the wine nicely. I enjoyed most of it while I was cooking and had little left over for dinner. I'm definitely buying a few more bottles.
I tried this at the same time I tried the Avalon California Cabernet Sauvignon and this Napa Valley AVA production is definitely the superior of the two wines from Avalon Winery, and at only a slightly more expensive price tag. Nice dark fruit shows with hints of oak and a nice dusty character as well. Decent balance with tannins that are present but not huge. Ready to drink now.
This is a wine that is served at the "Red Lion" pub in Houston, TX. It's a decent red, but I strongly urge you to let it breathe! If you do not, your first glass might taste more bitter than you would prefer. I have a glass of it once a week to sip while I talk with my friends at the pub, and therefore associate it with good conversation. I am a fan, but the cherry seems to make it a little to fruity and mask the subtle oak flavor. This generally leads to me drinking it a little faster, and being annoyed at having finished a glass before the end of the evening. This generally leads to a second glass, and in turn less money in my pocket. So to say I don't like it would be silly, but I do wish it was less fruity.
has a green pepper scent creamy start, slightly sweet has a dry finish
Plums and blackcurrants on the nose. Rather smooth with good solid tannins. A touch of minerality on the finish, which is slightly medicinal, but not overly. Overally a lot of wine for the price - great QPR
This bottle has a perfect and distinct identity. Very easy to drink, great nose, great value in fruit quality, hint of smoky chocolate finish. It isn't trying to be a huge cabernet, it is balanced and flavorful, great bargain! Great wine for parties, picnics, and entertaining...

Wine Tasting NotesAromas of plum, cherry, boysenberry and a def inite blueberry note with oak notes of caramel and cedar. This wine always drinks easy in luscious fruit f lavors similar to that of a berry pie with a white chocolate component.
The Avalon Cab is a fantastic value. Great for restaurants as a house wine or by the case if you're throwing a party. Either the Napa Valley Cab 12 or the California Cab 8 is an incredible deal for the complexity it offers to the palate. It's a California classic Cabernet, see-sawing between cherry/blackberry and vanilla/oak, with earthy tones.Let it breathe for 20-30 mins. and you'll really experience this.
