Austin Hope "Grenache" Paso Robles 2009
Beautiful awesome fruit aroma, full of blackberries. Yes, it inspires awe #obligatorybreakingbadreference. Well toasted oak to complement. Mouth is a little watery and flat though. Sort of a comatose chalkiness.Add winemaker's notes

Austin Hope runs is a small winery in California's Central Coast that's dedicated to producing high quality wines from Rhone varietals. The Hope Family Vineyard is located near the Templeton Gap in Paso Robles, the cool ocean air tempers the family estate vineyard which is planted with Syrah, Grenache, Mouvedre and others. Only a tiny amount of this 100% Grenache is produced (less than 600 cases), and it shows the care and focus these wines receive. Grenache is of course the grape variety most commonly found in Chateauneuf du Pape, here it delivers bright cherry and fig flavors along with spice, cocoa, pepper, licorice and nutty nuances, brought to life by a tingling backbone of acidity. It's aged 10 months in 100% French oak. The Wine Advocate scored it 90 points saying "The 2009 Grenache is an expressive, radiant wine graced with red fruit, rose petals, flowers and licorice. It reveals lovely inner perfume and sweetness, although some of the sheer juiciness of the fruit tapers off just a touch on the finish. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2017."
