August Briggs Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2003

Winemaker's Notes:

This 2003 vintage represents August Briggs seventh release of Napa Valley Cabernet. Due to moderate crop levels and a long ripening season this Mountain Cabernet is deep & dark, with a solid tannin structure and plenty of flavor. Aromas consist ofcoco, cola, earth, and vanilla. This cabernet is big, but approachable. Mucho Flavor! The 2003 August Briggs Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of two mountain vineyards located within the Napa Valley appellation. The first vineyard is on Diamond Mountain located in the western mountain range just outside the town of Calistoga. The second vineyard is in the Spring Mountain area also in the western mountain range just outside the town of St. Helena. The grapes for this blend were destemed and crushed into small, four ton open-topped tanks. After fermentation the wine set on the skins for an extended time before draining, pressing, and inoculating with a malo-lactic starter. This wine was barrel aged 22 months (50% French, 50% American Oak) prior to bottling. 434 cases produced.

August Briggs Winery is a family-owned winery in Napa Valley dedicated to producing very limited quantities of great wines from carefully selected vineyards across California’s North Coast counties. Owner Joe Briggs brings a quarter-century of winemaking knowledge in working with quality grape growers to produce our signature style of balanced wines with intense fruit character. Joe and his wife Sally welcome you to their winery home in Calistoga. August Briggs currently produces 16 different wines. Joe explains, "I let the grape supply dictate the wines I make now and in the future as well, so I'll be able to deliver different and interesting wines to my customers. One of my main focuses is to have fun with the wine. We probably won't ever be known for one particular wine, but rather making great wine in general." We purchased on our trip to Napa. We have not been disappointed! Great notes, not overpowering. We enjoyed before dinner with some cheddar and aged Old Amsterdam. Just a fun wine, great to share with friends.

From the famed Monte Rosso Vineyard, August Briggs has produced this pure, complex, and focused Cabernet Sauvignon. Bright cassis fruit on top of layers of tannin, earth, and mocha.
