Atwater Estate Vineyards Big Blend 2012

Member Review by meganeh:

Tasting Notes A grand melding of 2011 vinifera grapes mix and mingle creating an exotic lineup. It’s intriguing on the palate with twists and turns of recognition. Brilliant garnet color, notes of red cherry, sweet spice and pepper with smooth, silky tannins. Vineyard Notes GROWING CONDITIONS: The Finger Lakes region dealt with its most difficult growing season in recent memory. It started with a rainy April and May, but by June, warm, dry weather dominated. As the first rains arrived in August, they came as a relief, helping vines recover. But the rains continued persistently through September and the vineyards could not dry out. We had two dry, warm stretches, two windows during harvest. That helped us out a lot. This has been a ‘lower brix, moderate acid year’ with abundant crop yields. Production Notes TIME IN OAK: 9 Months in American Oak Winemaker Notes BLENDING INFORMATION: 33% Blaufränkisch, 29% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Cabernet Franc, 13% Merlot, 8% Syrah Food Pairing Notes Enhances a great steak, compliments lasagna, wine braised beef short ribs, and is delicious with lamb and roasted root vegetables. Production Our new labels are inspired by vintage wooden fruit crates. Colorful and bright paper labels have been used to identify products since the early 1880s. Introduced to America by European artists, this profession became known as lithography, the first commercial art. The goal was easy: catch the customer's eye. As the fruit market grew larger each season, immense competition at the local markets erupted. Orchard and vineyard owners used this new concept of lithography to bring attention to their fruit. Artfully done by Rochester based Brancato Creative, we expect to build on this image with new products to come. Other Notes Cases produced: 566
