External Reviews for Atrea Zinfandel Blend Mendocino County Old Soul Red
Inky ruby. Powerful aromas of dark berries, cherry-cola, licorice and Indian spices. Chewy, deeply concentrated blackcurrant and bitter cherry flavors are framed by silky tannins and gain sweetness with air. The finish repeats the cola note and lingers impressively. This is still a baby. The syrah is from vines that were planted in 1889, according to winemaker Alex MacGregor, which he says makes them the oldest syrah vines in America.
An attractive, bistro-styled red, the 2006 Atrea Old Soul Red (39% Zinfandel, 36% Syrah, and the rest Petite Sirah and other varietals) is a California version of a high class French Cotes du Rhone. Plenty of spice, pepper, roasted herb, blackberry, and black cherry aromas jump from the glass of this medium-bodied, generous, velvety-textured, delicious, seductive wine. Enjoy it over the next 1-2 years.
