Atlas Peak’s most valuable resource is the elevation of its vineyards. Grapes grown on the mountains above Napa Valley, above the natural fog line, experience much lower daytime temperatures than those on the valley floor, allowing the grapes to stay cool while gaining maximum sun exposure. As a result, mountain grapes can be harvested later for optimal flavor without the risk of over ripe fruit and excessive alcohol. And no grape variety develops as well in mountain conditions as Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine is a blend of grapes from four mountains; Atlas Peak, Howell Mountain, Mount Veeder and Spring Mountain. 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, the grapes are hand harvested and then carefully sorted at the winery. Each lot is vinified separately with extended maceration and then aged in 50% new French oak barrels for 15 months. Wine Enthusiast Magazine scored this wine 94 points and an Editors Choice saying “What a great wine for the price. It’s made from various Napa mountain vineyards, and shows concentrated blackberry and black currant flavors, wrapped into superfine Napa tannins that go down with silky smoothness. Not cheap, but the price is a bargain compared to super expensive Napa Cabs. At nearly 6,000 cases produced, it’s a steal.” Limited!
