Nose of dark chocolate and Chambord. A bigger glass and swirling made big changes. Air did wonders. -Tasted at the winery 9/19/09.

This is for the Spring Mountain District label. The age has done this wine quite well and it will probably improve over the next several years. Let it decant for a good hour and you'll be happy. Classic California cab with excellent fruit.

As it says on the label, this wine is a mountain blend. Atlas Peak bottles individual mountain Cabs from Howell Mountain, Mount Veeder, Spring Mountain and Atlas Peak. This Napa Valley Cab is a blend of grapes from all of those AVA’s. Mountain fruit is concentrated and brimming with flavor because these hillside vines have to struggle while at the same time the temperatures stay cool due to the altitude, lengthening the growing season and finally the sun baths them with nourishing light as they lie above the fog line. Wine Enthusiast Magazine scored this bold Cab 91 points and said “A beautiful Cabernet that shows a firm structure of acids and tannins, with perfectly ripened fruit that seduces the palate but doesn’t go overboard. Floods the mouth with black currants, black cherry pie filling and cedar flavors, but stays firmly dry and balanced. Now through 2012. “ Limited.

Winemaker's Notes:

Wine Enthusiast Review Rated 92 Appeals now for its dryness, elegance and lush, intricate black currant, chocolate and cedar flavors, which finish in a swirl of anise and cinnamon spice. But the tannins are so rich and refined, the wine should easily negotiate the next eight years.
