Winemaker's Notes:

#73 of the Wine Spectator Top 100 of 2010 “Dense yet lively, this chewy red delivers cherry, berry, licorice, mineral and smoke notes. The tannins are firm, yet the wine remains fresh and clean. Oaky, but well-grounded…92” WS 06/10

Dominio de Atauta:
One of the principle characteristics of Atauta is the great height of the vineyard situated at 950 to 1,000 metres above sea-level which allows maturing to lake place more slowly. During the weeks prior to the harvest, the temperature change between day and night of up to 25 degrees C gives a greater range of aromas with more character. The Tinto Pino variety of grape predominates as the Tcmpranillo in the Ribera del Duero is known.

Inky purple. Very rich aromas of dark cherry, plum and mocha. Displays fresher berry qualities on the palate, with slow-mounting minerality adding welcome lift. Deep, chewy and serious, with powerful tannins contributing structure.
