External Reviews for Atalon Merlot Napa Valley
The 2004 Merlot Napa (97% Merlot and 3% Cabernet Sauvignon) exhibits copious quantities of sweet cherries, mocha, and coffee beans in a soft, plush, sexy style. It is clearly meant for consumers who desire immediate gratification, so don't hesitate to drink it over the next 4-5 years. Red-ruby. Pretty, pure aromas of dark berries, flowers, mint, licorice, herbs and bitter chocolate. Juicy, spicy and nicely fresh for the year, with dark berry and medicinal minty flavors. A slightly green wine with modest nuance but good lift. ** SOLD OUT **
The 2003 Merlot reveals plenty of sweet oak as well as berry, cherry, and plum-like fruit, and hints of underbrush and smoke. Round, moderately generous, and seductive, it will provide pleasure over the next 3-4 years. The pricing is fair for this cuvee, and there are 3,800 cases. Good ruby-red. Plum, mocha and dark chocolate on the nose. Fat, sweet and approachable, with easygoing flavors of plum and dark raspberry. Finishes with dusty, slightly dry tannins and a hint of menthol. On the simple side, but not bad. ** Only 9 in Stock **
Wine Advocate ReviewA sweet perfume of plums, cherries, mocha, and herbs jump from the glass of this opulent, medium-bodied, smooth Merlot. Enjoy it over the next 5-6 years. It is hard to find good, classic Merlot from California selling at a realistic price, but Atalon delivers the goods.Wine Tasting NotesDeep purple in color with intense aromas and flavors of cherry, pomegranate, ripe plums and blackberry. Herbal notes such as fresh basil, dried lavender, olives and white pepper sit in the background adding depth and complexity. The tannins are firm yet smooth adding to a pleasant, lingering finish.
