Atalon Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2010
Purply color in the glass. Kind of a musky funk on the nose. Initial taste is quite tart. Then I get lots of tannin. Only after that do I get some cassis flavor. I don't know about this one. I don't get it. Tanzer, Parker and Wine Enthusiast ive this wine good ratings. To me it is completely unbalanced. I get a heavy musk, again, on the finish. Maybe some O2 will help it. US$23.99 at Costco in Chino Hills. 3/25/14 Amendment: OK, on day two, I am enjoying this wine a bit more. Flavors, acid and tannin appear to be integrated, now.

Atalon’s 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon is fleshy and generous, with plenty of fruit and terrific overall balance, not to mention considerable early appeal. Hints of tobacco, dried herbs and incense add complexity on the finish. This is a very solid wine for the money. The 2010 is 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 5% Malbec and 3% Petite Verdot, 1% Cabernet Franc. Anticipated maturity: 2012–2021.
Espresso and cocoa powder lend some added intensity to the black cherry, plum and cassis notes, with a spicy, peppery, herbal finish. Drink now through 2020.
This is a good value. It’s tannins, weight and intensity of cassis-liqueur flavor brings it right up there with some of Napa’s more expensive Cabs. Rich and flashy for drinking now and over the next 4–5 years.
Medium red-ruby. Cool aromas of redcurrant and menthol; subtly sweet flavors of dark berries, licorice and chocolate, plus a hint of tree bark. Not hugely dense but offers good lift and length. Dusty tannins will not stand in the way of enjoying this wine over the next few years.
