Ata Rangi Pinot Noir Martinborough 2008
This is a serious, muscular, powerful Pinot Noir. Dark brooding plum, cherry-stone aromas and exotic spice lead to a rich, dense palate characterised by firm but supple tannins and a deliciously 'Martinborough’ gamey, savoury complexity. Although subdued on the nose at this early stage, the long, long finish is laden with fruit weight and intensity that speaks volumes of the promise of aromas and flavours yet to unfold - the intrigue and fascination of classic Pinot Noir.

The palate is medium-bodied with notes of blackberry, raspberry, a touch of blueberry and a life-affirming sense of poise that leads to a mineral-rich finish and tart, dark cherries on the aftertaste. This delicious red wine comes from the region of Martinborough, at the southern tip of the North Island of New Zealand. The producers of this Pinot Noir were highly concerned with preserving varietal typicity, and the wine exhibits beautiful redcurrant and red cherry fruit flavors.
