Ata Rangi Chardonnay Martinborough Craighall 2008
Ata Rangi is owned and run by Clive Paton and his wife Phyll, together with Clive’s sister Alison. They are all bound by a shared enthusiasm for Pinot Noir and a passion for quality. This passion is evident in their wines, in particular their Pinot Noir, which is consistently ranked as one of New Zealand’s best. The Ata Rangi vineyards are situated in Wairarapa, just north of Wellington. Craighall is located directly opposite the main Ata Rangi home block. The 20 year old Mendoza clone of Chardonnay vines, with their characteristic ‘hen and chicken’ fruit set, are always low yielding. Soils here comprise a thin layer of well-drained alluvial soil deposited on what was the original course of the river as it flowed east to the Pacific Ocean. Golden in colour, this wine has perfumes of tropical fruit, white peach, melon, lime and even a touch of brioche. The palate is tight but weighty with great balance between the oak and the freshness of the fruit. Smooth silky tannins and a long, clean finish.
RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.
