Astrolabe Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough 2016

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

A little cooked, smells a little like airline food. Green pepper, toasty, meaty with chicken base. Lively with a tender texture, but this has a weird nutty, meaty quality to it. Excellent clarity, cooked chili, fruit. Succulent, super savory finish with cactus pad. Man, is this intensely aromatic on the finish. Green, cooked green. Not sure what to think here. 86pts

On a voyage of discovery in the 1800s, the great ship 'The Astrolabe' visited the shores of Marlborough and discovered the region's significant beauty and potential. Today, its namesake has captured these qualities and created a distinctive range of wines - Astrolabe. Nurturing the attributes of the soil, vine and climate and combining these with his minimalist approach in the winery, Simon Waghorn transforms the region's grapes into stylish and expressive wines. Already with a cult following, wines from Astrolabe offer excitement, exclusivity and exceptional value. Astrolabe Wines was established by a group of friends in 1996, effectively to become Simon Waghorn's own label. All our grapes are sourced from our own vineyard development in the heart of the spectacular Waihopai Valley and from other specially chosen local vineyards in the Marlborough region. Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc constitutes 80% of our production. Read less

Extremely pale in colour. Passion fruit and herbaceousness on the nose with a sumptuous palate and a lingering finish

A very easy to drink cheap(ish) Sauvignon Blanc.

Intense and vividly focused with plenty of pungent grass and fresh thyme notes up front revealing a fleshy juicy core of peach citrus and melon. A crisp bright acidity crescendos on the finish. Drink now. M.W. Wine Spectator.

Pale, bright yellow. Aromas of grapefruit, tarragon and white pepper. Slightly dry-edged but nicely concentrated, with a tropical note to the flavors of stone fruits and fresh herbs. Supple and well done. Finishes with sneaky grapefruity length. Stephen Tanzers IWC. A Sauvignon Blanc wine from Marlborough in New Zealand. 2011 Astrolabe Sauvignon Blanc 750ml

This bright, juicy white delivers succulent notes of passion fruit, honeydew melon, Key lime and Asian pear, which together make a clear, focused and intense chorus that persists on the long finish. Drink now. -MW Wine Spectator. A Sauvignon Blanc wine from Marlborough in New Zealand. 2011 Astrolabe Sauvignon Blanc 750ml

Pungent, pure aromas of grapefruit pith, pepper and spices, with a touch of asparagus. Dense, juicy and a tad sweet, with a white grapefruit flavor accented by spices and fresh herbs. Good texture here. Stephen Tanzers IWC. A Sauvignon Blanc wine from Marlborough in New Zealand. 2010 Astrolabe Sauvignon Blanc 750ml
