Astica Merlot Malbec. Trapiche 2016

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

This is woodsy and bright on the nose with some pencil shavings and light blueberry fruit. This is lighter styled with bright acids and soft tannins framing slightly jammy plummy fruit. There's a rawness on the palate with this wine, but it's fairly drinkable nonetheless with a fruity, dry, slightly woody, brief finish. 83pts

The Trapiche team was immensely proud to receive the Trophy for the "Argentinian Wine Producer of the Year 2006", awarded by a jury of wine experts on October 31st in London. When the IWSC, one of the most prestigious wine competitions in the world, created the trophy for "Argentinian wine producer of the year" in 2004, Trapiche was the first winery ever to receive it. The trophy was created because of the growing importance of the Argentina category within the industry; P&O Nedlloyd Logistics is the official sponsor. History repeats itself. Being awarded the trophy again is the proof that Trapiche is paving the way in Argentina´s wine industry, both in terms of quality and innovation. The winner is designated on the basis of its general performance at the IWSC 2006 and Trapiche won the only Gold Medal for an Argentinian wine with Medalla 2003. According to the competition officials, "Each year, the International Wine and Spirit Competition commends the achievements of those members of the wine and spirit trade who make an outstanding contribution to the industry. These individuals or companies set the standards of excellence for the rest of the industry to follow and influence the quality, variety, value, and educational information available to the wine and spirit consumer." Undoubtedly this trophy consolidates Trapiche´s leadership in the Argentinian wine industry. Read less

Dried fruit and flowers on the nose show nice yeasty, toasty nuances. Soft effervescence allows this rich, creamy wine to stretch out across the palate. The fruit shows some pineapple notes with a hint of vanilla and some apple peel notes on the back end, though there is not much follow through on the finish. 84pts

This particular wine has ripe blackberry aromas with a smooth and round fruity palate.

Pleasent for drinking without food, long finish, not bad for $10...

Medium-weight black currant, fig and cocoa flavors, with the cocoa dominating through the finish. A bit one-dimensional in style, but will have some fans.

"Noble wine of a bright red color. Aromas of black fruit and spices. Soft and balanced on the palate
