Subtle red fruit, slightly tart and earthy. Strong cherry, vanilla and light spices fall off the tongue as slight dryness creeps in on the finish. It is not all that acidic, and is somewhat flabby. Easy to drink but not wholly indicative of a typical Zin. The vanilla and cherry come to predominate on the finish. Id say its more a $12 bottle than $15.
Jammy, spicy, with typical cherry. Short, not overpowering. Great everyday wine.
No acidity, very little tannin, not powerful. On the nose I get leather, cigar box, earthiness. However, if you are buying this wine, make sure you decant it for at least 3 hours. Otherwise, it would taste like regular juice, exactly as is!

In 1978, Donald Hess founded the Hess Collection Winery on the volcanic slopes of Mount Veeder, 2,000 feet above the Napa Valley and defined a whole new approach to winemaking. Along with its mountain vineyards, the winery has won acclaim for its other estate vineyards in the Northeast and Southern ends of the Napa Valley and has been recognised as a premium producer of Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel and Chardonnay. Currently, 85 of the estate's 310 sustainably-farmed acres of vineyards are organically farmed and they are now in process of converting the remainder of the estate to organic farming. Grapes : 90% Zinfandel, 10% Petite Sirah Region : USA / California/ Mendocino Maker : David Guffy Notes : The colour is bright crimson red with a violet hue. The aroma is very bright, showing fresh raspberrry, boysenberry and pomegranate fruit, followed by classic "zinny" spice of nutmeg, cinnamon and back pepper. The fruit and spice continues on the palate, which is again fresh with hints of blueberry and huckleberry. The texture is round and rich for easy drinking and the tannins add to the lush mouthfeel. Serve : This wine was created for immediate enjoyment and pairs well with grilled meats, pasta and semi-firm cheeses such as an aged cheddar. ABV : 14.5%
A zesty Zinfandel that's loaded with spice, offering aromas of dark cherry and licorice that lead to lively plum, toasty sage and anise flavors. Finishes with ripe, briary tannins. Drink now through 2017.
High on the deliciousness-factor, this shows soft, seemingly sweet flavors of raspberry, cinnamon, smoky butter, sugar cookie and vanilla. It’s a little one-dimensional, but that dimension is a nice one. Drink now.
This is a brand from Hess Collection that specializes in Zinfandel. Crafted by Hessrsquo; talented winemaker, Randle Johnson, itrsquo;s quite a good Zin, classic in itrsquo;s way, briary and brambly and spicy. Drinks deep and long in wild berry, pepper, licorice, Dr. Pepper and smoky flavors, and will be great with a steak.
Herersquo;s a deeply flavored, lusty young Zin that really shows off the varietyrsquo;s briary personality, even though it hails from three different countries. Very rich in blackberries, mulberries and currants, itrsquo;s enormously spicy. Thoroughly enjoyable with barbecue and Mexican fare, like beef tacos.
A fine Zinfandel, rich and briary, with wild forest flavors of black and blue berries. Asian spices, tangerine zest and smoky sandalwood. Full-bodied and dry, itrsquo;s nice now and for the next few years.
Juicy and lively, with spicy cinnamon and raspberry aromas as well as crisp cherry, anise and loam flavors. Drink now through 2014.
