Artesa Red Blend Sonoma County Elements 2009

Member Review by Lane:

One of the more mellow and rich red wines I've had this season. Priced reasonably. Luscious with steak and lamb. Of course, PA liquor stores no longer supply. Guess it's over the border to Maryland yet again.

Artesa is Napa's newest, most exciting winery. Our architecturally-acclaimed facility opened as Codorniu Napa in 1991, dedicated solely to méthode champenoise sparkling wine production. But in 1997, with the arrival of a world-class winemaker and a $10 million conversion, the winery shifted focus dramatically. Artesa was born with the inaugural release of ultra-premium still wines in September 1999. Artesa (ahr TESS uh) means "craftsman" and connotes "handcrafted" in Catalan, language of Barcelona and our owner, Codorníu, one of the world's largest and oldest wineries. The Codorníu Group actually consists of eight spectacular wineries whose wines are enjoyed daily in over 100 countries around the world. So, while we are Napa's newest, our heritage is rich. We share five centuries of history with 15 generations of a remarkable winemaking family. Read less

Another solid offering from our friends at Artesa. They make some wonderful wines that have such a nice refinement. This 2006 blend is : (23% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Tempranillo, 20% Merlot, 18% Malbec, 11% Garnacha, 2% Petite Sirah, 2% Petit Verdot, 1% Graciano, and 1% Cabernet Franc), 65% Sonoma County, 35% Napa County. Nice nose and very soft on the palate. Not a long finish, but just a nice enjoyable red blend that combines varietals in the image of France and Spain....Done the Napa and Somona way! Enjoy this nicely crafted wine with just about anything! Cheers!

For being a Napa Valley fruit and chocolate bomb (not a style I usually particularly care for) this wine was very enjoyable. Layers and layers of chocolate and strawberry on the nose. Alcohol and tannins were very well balanced on the palate. Strangely, as the wine opened up and breathed it became more disjointed than it started.

Wine Tasting NotesA delightful melange of aromas and flavors. Specifically blended from many varietals, or elements, this wine is brimming with lively black cherry and black berry fruit wrapped in mocha and fudge. It is supple and spicy, with hints of mint, cinnamon, oregano and campfires. This wine has the structure to age for several years.

This wine is brimming with lively black currant, raspberry and blueberries enveloped in a spicybouquet of cinnamon, clove, vanilla, nutmeg and faint hints of smoked meat. The flavor is citrusto the aroma and the texture is silky and supple. This wonderful blend of fruit, spice and silkdances and lingers in your mouth. The acid balance and slight dryness of the tannin on the finishindicate this wine has the structure to age gracefully for several years
