Artesa Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Sonoma Elements 2006

Winemaker's Notes:

Wine Tasting Notes Deep garnet in color, its seductive aromas of cassis and red currant mingle with a delicate fragrance of thyme, milk chocolate, and caramel. Its concentrated red berry flavor develops on the palate and lingers with natural acidity. Supple mature tannins provide velvety texture and structure. This well balanced Cabernet Sauvignon will continue to develop for several years, yet is ready to enjoy now. 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc, 2% Petite Verdot, 1% Malbec

Artesa is Napa's newest, most exciting winery. Our architecturally-acclaimed facility opened as Codorniu Napa in 1991, dedicated solely to méthode champenoise sparkling wine production. But in 1997, with the arrival of a world-class winemaker and a $10 million conversion, the winery shifted focus dramatically. Artesa was born with the inaugural release of ultra-premium still wines in September 1999. Artesa (ahr TESS uh) means "craftsman" and connotes "handcrafted" in Catalan, language of Barcelona and our owner, Codorníu, one of the world's largest and oldest wineries. The Codorníu Group actually consists of eight spectacular wineries whose wines are enjoyed daily in over 100 countries around the world. So, while we are Napa's newest, our heritage is rich. We share five centuries of history with 15 generations of a remarkable winemaking family. Read less

External Reviews for Artesa Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Sonoma Elements

11/12/2010

Rating: 88/100 - As reviewed by Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine (www.cgcw.com) in the August 2010 issue. Finding good Cabernet Sauvignon for less than twenty dollars is no easy task, but Artesa has come up with a bonafide Best Buy here. Nicely composed and very keen on Cabernet fruit, it shows a sweet trim of root-beer-like spice from front to back and is balanced for early drinking. Its integral tannins firm without adding toughness, and, despite the fact that it should grow for a few years, it is accessible now and will serve well in the near term with juicy steaks hot off the grill. GOOD VALUE.Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine aging recommendation: Drinkable now. Further bottle aging can improve this wine.
