What to Expect

Grenache is the main grape in many Rhone blends and most Cotes du Rhone and Chateaunuef-du-pape. It's a grape that yields soft, lightly colored yet full wines endowed with deep notes of strawberry and raspberry. While not prone to producing particularly rich or complex wines in France, Grenache is one of the world's most widely-planted grapes, producing unique expression where ever it is planted. It is particularly common in Spain as Garnacha, and Sardinia, as Canonnau,

Winemakers Notes

100% up to 80 year old vine Garnacha." The Artazu project was created by the legendary winegrower Juan Carlos Lopez de la Calle of Rioja's famous Artadi estate. The goal was to take the same quest for varietal purity that Juan seeks in Tempranillo to the Garnacha varietal." The small village of Artazu in the northernmost zone of Navarra was chosen for its extraordinary old vines of Garnacha producing wines of dark, peppery fruit with amazing balance and soft tannins.

Brilliant bright red color. This is just what I like in a red wine. A harmony of pleasant tannins, deep red fruits and earth. The finish is slightly harsh but melts away quickly leaving me wanting more. And oh, that price. I'm tempted to stockpile this one!

Lately I just can't get enough grenache. It must be something in the air. This very inexpensive Navarra was a decent fix. On the nose I was thinking it would be much bigger bodied that it turned out to be - still a fairly large wine. The alcohol at times seemed a little out of whack, but nothing major. Very nice flavors of cherry and... rasberry? blueberry? along with a slight dusty spice. The tannins were average.
Would I buy it again? Yes. It's a deal of a wine.

Typical of Navarran rosado, this is fuller in color and weight but still holds true to the region's textbook crispness and freshness. It has fairly big flavors or raspberry and citrus, with a rousing finish. A little more elegance and refinement and we'd be even happier. Wine Enthusiast (7/1/2007) 86 points

Good fruit and rich spice. A great deal of a wine. Would definitely buy again.
