This briliant Rioja is purple almost black and very opaque with little transition to the rim. The nose opens with blackberry a bouquet of violet and lavender followed by sweet cherry graphite and wet stone. Rich and layered with dense fruit the palate offers loads of spice while the mid palate is lifted with a brooding tannic structure. Overall the wine is very refined and has complexity throughout. The wine is a monster at this point so I suggest letting this age another 5-6 years before considering a bottle and then easily enjoy the following 20. A fantastic tempranillo. Jeff Loo.

Dunkles Purpur-Rot. In der Nase Toastnoten, Veilchen, schwarze Kirschen, Heidelbeeren. Am Gaumen sehr konzentriert, blumig, fruchtig, sehr schöne Struktur, reife Tannine, elegant und gehaltvoll. Ein langes, aromatisches Finish.

The 2007 Pagos Viejos is sourced from Artadi s three best and most elevated vineyard sites all planted to Tempranillo over 75 years of age. The wine was aged for 18 months in new French oak. It sports a superb aromatic array of toasty new oak pencil lead violets incense black cherry and blueberry. Elegant ripe and velvety on the palate it has superb depth and concentration savory flavors a firm structure and a 45-second finish. Give it 6-8 years of additional bottle age and drink it

The quality of the Tempranillo grapes ishigh beyond dispute, but they are still treated to the rigours of six sortingtables in the quest for perfection, an on-going process as they are currentlymid-way through their ageing in new Allier barriques. The tasting of the winespre-assemblage from 6 different sites revealed astonishing differences from thevarious microclimates; the finished article is greater than the sum of itsparts;
