Arrowood Red Rhone Blend Russian River Valley la Rosé 2001

Winemaker's Notes:

Region/Origin: Sonoma County Residual Sugar: Dry Total Acid: .55g per 100ml Alcohol: 14.6% Final pH: 3.6 Blend: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon Winemaker's Notes At Arrowood Winery, we think all of our wines are special; once in a while, we produce a wine that exceeds even our wildest expectations. Our 2001 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon is just one of those wines. Richard Arrowood believes that this is one of the top three Cabernet Sauvignon wines Arrowood has produced in the Reserve style; it is right up there with the 1994 and 1997 vintages. And we're not the only ones who think so. Robert Parker, the highly discriminating wine critic, gave this wine 96 points and described it as one of the best Cabernets produced in Sonoma County. We have no problem agreeing with that one! This 100% varietal wine is a complex blend of six of our favorite Sonoma County vineyards. Keeping vineyard lots separate, we aged them for two years in French and American oak barrels. After creating the Reserve master blend, we returned it to 100% French oak barrels for another five months of aging. Finally, we bottled it unfined and unfiltered. This aversion to over-manipulation will allow the wine to be even more pronounced in its complexity and finesse. This seductive wine tantalizes the senses from start to finish. In the nose, intense aromas of fresh crushed blackberries mingled with pleasing notes of créme de cassis and hints of vanilla. Dark fruit flavors of cassis and blackberry dominate on the palate and are beautifully balanced by bold, firm tannins and substantial structure. A clean, focused and lengthy finish completes this very harmonious, very complex wine. Our 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon, Réserve Spéciale can be enjoyed on its own, or paired with delicious cuisine. Keep it simple and try it with a pan roasted salmon, grilled rib eye or flank steak, or go for a more refined entre like rack of lamb or prime rib. Its your choice with this remarkable wine you can't go wrong.

The winemaking philosophy at Arrowood is simple: Produce classic varietal wines using grapes exclusively from Sonoma County's diverse viticultural areas such as Russian River Valley, Alexander and Dry Creek Valleys or Sonoma-Carneros. This approach has not changed since the winery was founded in 1986 by Richard Arrowood and his wife and partner, Alis Demers Arrowood. Richard has been making wine for more than four decades. Before founding Arrowood, he was winemaker and the first employee at Chateau St. Jean. There he produced the winery's first releases: Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and a wine that may have very well put Chateau St. Jean on the map - a Select Late Harvest Riesling. Arrowood Winery opened while Richard was still the winemaker at Chateau St. Jean, and for the first three years Alis ran the winery while Richard fulfilled his obligations at Chateau St. Jean. She dragged hoses in the cellar, topped barrels and ran the bottling line. She spent weekends entertaining, giving tours and hosting wine tastings. The first Arrowood wines were released in 1988. ...Redcurrant syrup, tobacco, mocha and chocolate on the aromatic, oaky nose. Fat, lush and sweet, with the richest texture of all of these red wines. Finishes with sweet tannins and very good length... Stephen Tanzers IWC. A Cabernet Sauvignon wine from California in USA. 2001 Arrowood Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve Speciale 750ml

A sure bet is the 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve Speciale. Arrowood tends to age this top-flight Cabernet cuvee a bit longer than most producers (28 months), but he gets considerable structure in these big, rich offerings. The terrific 2001 reveals ...
