Arrowleaf Cellars Vidal Okanagan Valley Vqa Select Late Harvest 2005

External Review:

When the Zuppiger family took over the 6.5-hectare Arrowleaf vineyard in 1997, they intended to make Icewine with their modest plot of Vidal until discovering that late harvest dessert wines are easier to make and easier to sell. Nevertheless, there is a bit of the Icewine technique employed here: some of the Vidal is harvested late in the fall and some is left to freeze before being picked. The juices of the two are then blended. The tasty result is this wine, with an aroma almost as spicy as a Gewürztraminer. The wine is plump, redolent with flavours of mango and other tropical fruits. The soft acidity allows the wine to finish with unctuous sweetness, without becoming cloying. 85 points.
