On the nose, this wine was a monster with raspberry, holiday spices and dark forest notes. It verged on sweet but something animal about this Sagrantino, pulled it back to reality. On the palate, a massive wave of concentration was turned fresh by vibrant acidity as blackberry jam, pomegranate, cinnamon and herbs wash across the tongue like silk. The finish showed this wines intimidating structure as velvety tannin coated the mouth. The Arnaldo Caprai 25 Anni is highly enjoyable now and will likely age into something magical.

70% Sangiovese and 30% Sagrantino"The 2007 Sagrantino di Montefalco 25 Anni is an extreme wine in this vintage. In fact, I am not sure it is meaningfully better or more complex than the Collepiano. The wine needs several hours to be the slightest bit approachable. Firm, huge tannins assault the palate in this massively concentrated Sagrantino. Layers of tar, licorice and leather add a measure of detail to this hulking 25 Anni. The 2007 will require considerable bottle age to soften." --The Wine Advocate"The 2007 Montefalco Rosso is simply beautiful in this vintage. Silky, ripe tannins frame an expressive core of red berries, flowers and tobacco. The wine reveals gorgeous length and a refined, understated finish. Readers who enjoy more tertiary nuance may want to cellar this for a few years. In my experience Caprai’s Montefalco Rosso peaks between ages eight to ten. Still, it is impossible not to admire the wine today. This is a terrific effort from Marco Caprai."Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
