Arnaldo Caprai Sagrantino di Montefalco 25 Anni 2004
"The 2004 Sagrantino di Montefalco 25 Anni is remarkable. A dark, brooding beauty, this pure Sagrantino flows from the glass with awesome richness. The wine’s fruit is still primary and vibrant, while the textural sensations on the palate are totally seductive. The firm Sagrantino tannins are there, but the wine has so much fruit they are barely perceptible. It represents the very finest in contemporary winemaking."Wine Advocate[Made to celebrate the property’s 25th anniversary.]*This item has been reduced for this closeout sale and is sold on a first come, first served basis. The nose shows dusty flowers, strawberry fruit and new leather. On the palate this Sagrantino came across as very stern at first with noticeable tannin. Flavors of raspberry jam and vanilla found a way through the wall of mouth coating tannin. Unfortunately, after a few hours of air this bottle closed down completely and resembled nothing short of cold tea. I was dumbfounded by the transformation of this bottle.
The darkest shade of ruby red, deep and brooding and close to black. New bottling lurching out of the traps aromatically, nowhere near tight, this wine is drinking superbly today. The best nose I´ve sampled all year, hit by potent aromas a foot away. Acres of ripe fruit, spices and vanilla, a masterclass in Sagrantino. Tannic like you´d expect, this wine is going to slay you in 10 years time but even today soft and full tannins that stay with the fruit, balance, structure till 2024. Almost perfect.
