Ariel Chardonnay 2016

Member Review by RUS:

Winemaker notes make it sound like this is regular wine with the alcohol filtered out at the last minute. However, the wine bottle ingredients list water as the first ingredient! Also contains grape juice concentrate and other fruit juice concentrates. Label also says to refrigerate after opening. No mention of grapes used in the "wine" on the label. I'd say this vineyard has a big credibility gap. Taste was pretty bad. I would consider only if drinking alcohol is a problem. I would label this some sort of wine/fruit juice combo product.

Founded in 1972, J. Lohr Vineyards & Wines crafts an array of acclaimed wines from estate vineyards in Monterey County, Paso Robles and Napa Valley. From this world-class palette of fruit, J. Lohr produces three tiers of award-winning wines – J. Lohr Estates, J. Lohr Vineyard Series and J. Lohr Cuvée Series. Selecting Monterey County’s Arroyo Seco appellation for his original vineyard, Jerry planted his first 280 acres of grapes beginning in 1972. Ideally suited for cool-climate winegrowing, these vineyards have become an acclaimed source for outstanding Chardonnay, Riesling, Valdiguié and Pinot Noir. At the heart of J. Lohr’s renowned red wine program are its 2,000 acres of estate vineyards in Paso Robles. Featuring warm, sunny days, cool nights and diverse soils, these vineyards have proven ideal for cultivating a flavorful array of grapes including voluptuous and complex Bordeaux varietals of Cabernet, Merlot and Cabernet Franc along with Syrah and Zinfandel. Tropical fruit, apple, and some oak: happy to have something that tastes fresh.

This was my first 2008 vintage. I am not familiar with this variety, and this particular wine I felt really needs some getting used to. Not sure if it was intentional, but the bouget was very fragrant with a slight hint of mildew. The color wasfantastic purply inky, unlike the more reddish of the red wine cadre. The taste was strongly boysenberry (as it says on the label) but reminds me of a fenced fallow pasture. Don't know why. Didn't pair well with a roasted chicken and root vegetable dish at all. In fact, I ended up throwing my glass out and opening something else. That doesn't happen often in my house. I am a pretty solid put er up er with offness. Maybe I'll try this variety again by another winery to get a feel for this variety, but its not on my list of favs so far.

Had this at a wine tasting and it was presented to me compared to a Beaujolais Nouveau from California. I was skeptical to begin with. Very strong tastes of cherry and jam in an overall young wine without the fun of being a Nouveau. Almost too sweet. I would definitely spend the money on an actual Beaujolais if that is the flavor your are after.

Dark ruby red in color, with aromas of blueberry, black cherry and cassis and a hint of violets. The bouquet is an elegant blend of vanilla, chocolate, tobacco leaf and tar. It shows ripe and velvety soft tannins and a plump structure supported by good acidity, It would complement grilled or roasted red meats and red-sauced pasta dishes and will develop additional complexity with bottle aging.

A smooth, supple structure will overwhelm you at first taste. J. Lohr's Cabernet is full of rich cherry and blueberry flavors rounded out by a delicate oak balance.

Aromas of black cherry, currants, blueberry, violets and jammy black fruits that extend into a complex bouquet of cedar, mocha, cigar box and black olives. The fruit shows ripe and ample tannins with a plump, concentrated structure supported with benevolent acidity.

While you're waiting for your huge Cabs to age, sustain yourself with this drinkable wine tonight. It's soft and gentle, with pretty flavors of blackberries, black cherries and coffee. Has an elegance that belies the affordable price.

This flavorful, soft Cabernet should satisfy your guests, yet won't break the bank. It has pleasant flavors of black currants, cherries, sage, dill, tobacco, and smoky oak, and the tannins are firm and a little tea-like. Finishes with a ripe, fruity flourish.

Raisin, plum and cherry notes have good depth and are framed by a ripe tannic structure. Good value. Drink now through 2004.

The alcohol is carefully removed, but only once the beer has fully matured so it locks in the famous Bitburger taste and at the same time it reduces. The full fermentation process means that Bitburger Drive can be tapped straight from the keg, unlike most other beers. And because it is fully fermented, there's no need for it to be pasteurised, giving it a fresh taste.
