Argyle Winery Spiriithouse Pinot Noir 2005
Tasting Notes: The aromas are deep and spicy with cherry, spices and a hint of rich vanilla creme. The flavor is mouth filling and extra silky, with a concentrated and succulent finish. Black cherry blends with blueberry-like fruit while retaining a beautifully balanced texture between tannin and fruit sweetness. Look for cedar wood and tamarind spice entwined with rich fruit.
Very light color, with orange tinges. Light strawberry nose. Very light style, very Burgundian. Acidic. Somewhat dusty. Light body. Some black olive notes, and a little juicy.
Willamette Valley and Russian River are my new favorites. Maybe because they are the dernier cri in restaurants here in DC so I have tried them more. They are amazing and exciting, although I am still not convinced that the price inflation of wines from this region is justified. Is a $400 bottle of Russian River really worth the same as a Margaux? In any case, I just tried a Pinot Noir blend at Proof DC that is to die for and I am trying to track down the name of that bottle. When I do find it, I am buying a case.
