Residing to the north of the Great Dividing Range in Central Victoria, the region is at elevations between 160m and 380m. For the most part, the soil under vine is of the pre-Cambrian era - red and deep with excellent water holding capacity, although the regions most sort-after and expensive wines come from the predominately clay with granite and quartz inclusions of the Southern and Central sub-regions. The region’s rainfall is evenly distributed between the seasons and the temperature range is defined as temperate, with cooling winds emanating from the south. It is our belief that the Heathcote Wine Region will eventually be divided up into three sub-regions (Northern, Central and Southern) as there is a distinct difference in the flavour and structure of the wines coming from these individual areas. These differences are due to the influences of the local ‘terroir’. Read less

A distinctive white whose pastry and apple notes give much pleasure immediately, falling off a little on the finish. Still, it’s delicate and well-balanced. Drink now through 2015.

Aromatically, the 2003 Riesling Auslese Brauneberger Juffer Sonnenuhr is held in check by sulfur. On the palate, however, it reveals a well-focused core of white pepper-laced pears, hints of citrus fruits, and a distinctive note of red cherries that comes to the fore in its extended finish. An outstanding effort, it should be drunk between 2007 and 2017.

The 2003 Riesling Auslese Urziger Wurzgarten* took considerable aeration to blow off its high levels of SO2. With time, powerful aromas of slate came to the fore, followed by a softly-textured, light to medium-bodied flavor profile of blueberries, pears, blackberries, and apples. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2017. RP "Almond and mineral aromas are followed by intense orange Creamsicle and lime notes as this slim, concentrated Riesling glides to its finish. Good, tangy acidity keeps it focused. Drink now through 2022." Wine Spectator, Mar. 31 2005, Bruce Sanderson

...A softly-textured, suave wine, it reveals candied pear aromas. Medium-bodied and lush, this pure, deep effort regales the palate with white fruits and salty blackberries whose effects linger in its impressively long finish. Drink this smile-inducing, generous Auslese between 2007 and 2017. RP
