User Reviews for Argiolas Red Blend Isola Dei Nuraghi IGT Turriga
Add your reviewI was stationed in Sarinia and fell in love with their wines, especially the Cannonau varieties. While I never had a bad glass of Sardinian wine, even the pitchers at the Mom and Pop bistros that were vintage dated "Last Wednesday" were delicious pared with food, the Argiolas Costera was my favorite. A simple unpretentious, yet full bodied red that is best if allowed to breathe a bit. Try it with Pasta Arribiata (zitti in red pepper sauce), or Filet di Pepe ( filet mignion with a creamy green peppercorn sauce). You'll enjoy it all the way through the cheese course (aged Peccorino Romano). It is said that Americans see food as fuel, the French see food as Art, Italians see food as Life, at least the part worth living. This wine goes well with Life.

Monica di Sardegna, a grape of Spanish origin, produces a dry, ruby-red table wine on the Mediterranean island of Sardinia. This soft, easy-drinking bottle hails from Antonio Argiolas's winery, located outside of Caligari, the capital city.
Costera is a Cannonau-based wine (with some Carignano and Bovale) that sees a very light passing in wood. The result is a fruit-driven wine with a pinch of exotic spice and soft tannins. The real protagonist here, however, are the jammy, ripe berry notes.
The 2007 Costera is the finest of these entry-level bottlings. A massive, generous wine, it literally bursts onto the palate with waves of game, earthiness, mint, spices, herbs and bacon fat notes that swirl around a core of ripe, dark fruit. There is outstanding harmony and balance in the glass, especially at this price point. Costera is 90% Cannonau, 5% Carignano and 5% Bovale Sardo, (all native varieties), that spent roughly 6ndash;8 months in French oak. Anticipated maturity: 2008ndash;2012.

The 1993 Costera (100% Grenache) could be Sicily's answer to Châteauneuf du Pape. Exhibiting gobs of black-cherry and raspberry fruit, the wine is full-bodied, rich, velvety smooth, and cleanly made. It should drink well for another 5-6 years. Previous vintages of these wines from Sicily were impressive, so I am delighted to see that my early enthusiasm has been reinforced by recent releases.
