Chateau St. Michelle Gewurtztraminer Columbia Valley 2004
Snoothrank: 3.5/5 Starting at $5.99 USD
What to Expect
Gewürtztraminer - the spicy grape from Tramin in what is now Northern Italy - has almost a cult following around the world, though its finest expressions tend to come from the Alsace region of France and certain regions of Germany. The wine tends to be wildly aromatic full of honeysuckles and lychee with a thick texture and high potential sugar which makes it an ideal candidate for a lightly sweet to desert styled wine.

Hailing from the northeastern region of Pannonhalma, this dry Gewurztraminer earnestly reflects the area's historic wine tendencies: in broad terms, this region's cuisine dictated the winemaking practices. Hungary's harsh winters created a culture of heartier, spicier food with more fat than other Austro/Slavic diets; this turn demanded a wine that could stand up to this type of food. Subsequently the whites from this area are firm and fuller than similar wines from Austria or Germany.
