Made from 100% Montepulciano d'Abruzzo from a single vineyard. In August, the Pignotto vineyard undergoes a dramatic green harvest. The remaining fruit grows ripe and concentrated by the time the grapes are harvested in October. After the grapes are pressed, the must was left in contact with the skins for 21 days during which time the cap was punched down multiple times daily. After fermentation, the wine was aged in Allier barrique for 14 months. Pignotto exhibits incredibly intense purple colors and huge extraction of fruit that is reflected in notes of dark cherry, cassis and jam. Black read more...fruit flavors explode on the palate rounded out by hints of licorice and leather. This is a tremendous achievement in Montepulciano d'Abruzzo.
a brilliant achievement...Its inky/purple color is followed by a sweet nose of melted licorice, creosote, blackberries, cherries, new saddle leather, pepper, and incense...Dense, chewy, and muscular, with supple tannin and a long, explosive finish (hide)
