What to Expect

Zweigelt is an Austrian hybrid grape resulting from a cross between Blaufränkisch and St. Laurent. It produces medium-bodied wines with good acidity and soft tannins supporting slightly earthy - yet quite fruity - notes of dark cherry and black raspberry with spicy undertones. The grape is hearty and has found favor in cool climate vineyards in Canada and Northern Europe.

Winemakers Notes

Anton Bauer produces his wines in the town of Feuersbrunn (Neufang 42) in the Wagram wine growing area in Lower Austria. Bauer is the fourth generation to work here, and took over the business from his father in 1993. At the time, the estate had 5 hectares of vineyards. The estate is committed to maintaining sustainable vineyard practices, with organic fertilisers being used, and organic soil care being implemented. The vineyards have now expanded to cover 11 hectares in the best sites of Wagram. 60% of the vineyard is planted to white varieties - Grüner Veltliner, Welschrielsing, Riesling, read more...
