56% Carmenere, 31% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Syrah Black plums framed with pencil shavings and some fresh herbs and nettles dominate the nose though a nice undercurrent of strawberry-rhubarb compote adds depth and complexity here. Big, smooth and frankly a bit taut in the mouth, this combines richness with grace as it gently floats across the palate. This seems quite young and unevolved with it’s tight core of gentle oak framed black currant and black raspberry fruit that seem to struggle to get noticed today. A streak of vanilla appears on the backend and leads to a long, gently tannic finish that sees fine, fresh black cherry and wild blackberry fruit emerge on the finale. This needs time and is very fine but to a certain extent it’s a texture wine in the way that many of the super tuscans are. It’s a wine of refinement more than anything else. 91pts

Spicy on the nose with herb, grass, balsam, and passion fruit note all embedded in gently oaky dark fruits. Bright and almost tart on entry with blackberry and black currant flavors paired with some soft tobacco notes, toasted nut notes and a bed of slightly earthy, compost notes that are actually quite attractive. A bit lean and elegant, bitter chocolate notes pop on the finish which shows a touch of aggressive wood tannin and a hint of lingering sweetness. A pretty fruity wine but one that remains relatively bright and light on its feet. 90pts

Robert Parker 93 Points Alvaro Espinoza is a Chilean legend. He and his wife Marina run the first Boutique Garage winery in Chile. They were the first to be certified Biodynamic and they have all sorts of wildlife in the vineyards including Llamas. Antiyal Vineyards are located in the Maipo Valley, in three different locations, in Huelquen at the foothills of the Alto Maipo, another property in El Escorial and the third property in Isla de Maipo. The three vineyards are small, completing 8 hectares in total of vineyards, allowing fine work in the vines. Grapes : Carmenere 90%, Cabernet Sauvignon 10% Region : Chile / Maipo Alto Maker : Alvaro Espinoza Notes : Ripe super intense nose. Layers of flavour almost sweet but finishing dry and complex. ABV : 14.50%

Vintage: 2010 06/04/2013

The 2010 Antiyal is a blend of 47% Carmenere, 29% Cabernet Sauvignon and 24% Syrah. It has a very well defined bouquet with blackberry leaf, crushed stone, and limestone. This is very expressive. The palate is medium-bodied with super-fine tannins. It is very well balanced with grace and poise towards the natural, refined blackberry and sea salt tinged finish. This is another beautiful wine from Alvaro. Drink now-2017. Roasted, spicy and gritty aromas are common for this Carmenère-led blend from Alvaro Espinoza. The palate is full and ripe, with tannic grip. Flavors of buttery oak, vanilla, blackberry and olive lead to a toasty finish, with mocha and bitter chocolate notes. Overall, it's an oaky, ripe, strong-boned Maipo wine to drink now-2017. - M.S. An earthy yet ripe red, herb-tinged, with a chewy core of plum skin and wild berry notes that lead to a slightly firm finish and an aftertaste of tobacco and ganache that reverberates on the dark finish. Vintage: 2008 01/03/2013

Antiyal's 2008 Alto del Maipo Valley is composed of 52% Carmenere, 25% Syrah, and 23% Cabernet Sauvignon aged for 12 months in French oak. It offers up an already complex bouquet of Asian spice, herbal notes, incense, tobacco, blueberry, and blackberry. In the glass it opens to reveal full body, plush, layered fruit, succulent flavors, excellent balance, and a lengthy, fruit-filled finish. Give it 3-4 years of additional cellaring to reveal its full potential and drink this classy effort from 2015 to 2023. (43% carmenere, 39% cabernet sauvignon and 18% syrah) Glass-staining ruby. High-pitched, assertive aromas of raspberry and blackberry, complicated by floral and incense nuances and a hint of smoky herbs. Juicy, palate-staining red and dark berry preserve flavors show impressive purity and pick up sweetness with aeration. Lively and precise on the finish, which echoes the floral and smoke notes strongly. Incidentally, the 2007, which I had the chance to taste twice this wi...

Every year this wine impresses and scores the same, so give credit to Antiyal for consistent high quality. This vintage shows milk chocolate, leather and char on the nose along with deep berry aromas. The palate is full and lush, with cassis, cherry, berry and a light leafiness. Mildly herbal but thatandrsquo;s pure Maipo Valley for you; Carmenandegrave;re, Cabernet and Syrah is the blend. Drink nowandndash;2013.
