88 points. On the nose, I immediately pick up on supple ripe raspberries, and rich red cherries. There is a floral tone with some very dark volcanic stone, dark cacao powder, and a slightly green herbal tone. This wine’s aroma is dark and slightly rustic, with a unique root beer and vanilla component playing very softly in the background. The palate opens with ripe, juicy raspberries and moves into a slightly musty component, cherries and cranberries, with a little butter and a little dark stone. The finish is soft with light dusty tannins and a dried red fruit flavor that lingers for some time. This wine has a very nice balance of ripe fruit and powdery tannins, and the subtle buzz of acidity on the finish has a pleasant mouthwatering effect. This is a well made, solid wine, and I would say that at $30 it is priced about right. It’s enjoyable and refined, nothing that will rock your world, but dependable and a very good example of what the Chianti region is capable of. If you want to go beyond the wicker and checkered table cloths, this is a wine Worth Trying. I like sangiovese. It is a full body wine. It goes with meat.

Appearance Very dark in color and no bubbles. It is clear and inviting. Legs run a little oily. Smell Nice fruit mixed with earthiness aroma. Taste The taste is crisp and refreshing? a little dry but not too. Nice aftertaste, lingering on the palate. Overall I enjoyed having it with italian food like pasta with marinara sauce and meatballs.

Red berries and light oaky aromas on this red. Unobtrusive tannins make it go well with a huge range of meat dishes.

Wine Tasting NotesRich in aromas of mature fruit and hints of vanilla . On the palate, the wine is well-balanced, elegant with a good structure. Pppoli is made with a view to being enjoyed fairly young, when all its fruity nuances are at their maximum.

Antinori is a world famous producer of Tuscan wines, their history going back literally centuries. The Villa Antinori is the estate where the Chianti Classico wines have been produced for many years. This wine is a natural progression from their Chianti Classico. As the Antinoris recognized how non-native grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah raised the level of quality of their wine they started blending more and more and finally could no longer use the DOC designation and so it became a Super Tuscan IGT. But the quality they’ve reached is exceptional, especially as they’ve experimented more with aging in small oak barrels. This 2005 is a blend of 60% Sangiovese, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot and 5% Syrah aged for 12 months in French, American and Hungarian oak barrels. Aged in the bottle for another 8 months before release this Tuscan beauty has reached a stage where the ripe fruit, the savory oak and the Tuscan terroir are intermingled in a stunning array.

Tuscany, ItalyMarchese Antinori Chianti Classico Riserva is produced exclusively from the finest, most highly selected grapes grown on the Antinori estates of Santa Cristina, Pppoli and Badia a Passignano in the Mercatale Val di Pesa zone of the Chianti Classico region. The wine is 90% Sangiovese and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. For this outstanding 2005 vintage, the wine received ratings of 91 points from Robert Parker and Wine Spectator and 90 points from Stephen Tanzer. At Wine Gems, we simply call it a red wine gem!Marchese Antinori Chianti Classico Riserva is dark ruby-garnet in color. On the nose, it has pronounced cherry and violet notes with nuances of tobacco. The wine is full-bodied with remarkable depth and structure. On the palate, it shows flavors of blackberry, raspberry, chocolate and spice. Aged for 14 months in 225-liter French oak barrels (Alliers & Troncais) for added richness and complexity, it spends another full year in bottle before release. Beautifully balanced to enjoy now, this red has the potential to reward cellaring for another 8-10 years. It is long and silky smooth on the finish.Enjoy Marchese Antinori Chianti Classico Riserva with osso bucco, lasagna, veal Milanese, grilled vegetables, and aged cheeses.
