Antinori - 2001 Tignanello Toscana IGT
Release US$ 75.00. Now around US$ 103.00. 15 months before release. An impressive 27,500 cases made.

Tasted on 16.08.2007. Bottled decanted for 3.5 hours. A blend of 85% Sangiovese, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Merlot. 13.5%. An expressive and impounding nose of cassis, olives, sweet oak. Full-bodied with superb ripe tannins, yet showing a shallow class with luscious cedar and leather (after 2 hours) with a good after-taste. Best appreciated from 2008 to 2016.

Shocked by the overall Bretty-ness to this wine. Wasn't expecting that at all. However, after much swirling, aerating and sniffing, I was able to find a core of dark red and black fruit. With a positive midpalate of dried herbs and a leathery tannin finish with bitter cherry components.

Deep, almost black intense Ruby red color. The nose is a real treat, full and powerful aromas of blackcurrent, plums and cassis with the cabernet adding the slightest hint of herbs as the wine sits in the glass. The taste is classic sangiovese with the cab coming through on the finish. Long, long silky finish, the tannins are balanced. A very well constructed wine. (SN - 11/07)

Red fruit, raspberry, tar, fine well integrated tannins. Lighter than I expected; preferred the Montevetrano. Not overwhelming for the price, but very enjoyable. Drinking now.

This is a bold wine with deep rich flavors and silky tannins. Allowed to decant for more than 30 minutes the depth of flavor increases significantly and provides a true window on the concept behind super-tuscan.

[PWJGT] much fuller and richer than my previous experience. Dark fruit smoke, structure. ***
