Antinori Solaia(1997)
Solaia, which means the 'sunny one' in Italian, is a 10 hectares (25 acres) southwest-facing vineyard planted 351-396 metres (1,150-1,300 feet) above sea-level on stony calcareous soil of marl and friable albarese rock. It is located at Santa Cristina, contiguous to the Tignanello vineyard, which is on the same property, in the Mercatale Val di Pesa zone of Chianti Classico. read more...

- Saturated, solid ruby-black. Powerful nose of blackcurrants, blackberries, sweet herbs, and vanilla; focused and penetrating. Rich and potent in flavor, with concentrated cassis fruit of impeccable ripeness. Complementary notes of chocolate and tar. Sumptuous and authoritative; iron and velvet in perfect symbiosis. Antinori CEO is Renzo Cotarella, a professional winemaker with a doctorate in chemistry-a telling indication of the firm's priorities. (Remy-Amerique, New York, NY)
