The wine has been produced in the area (the location of the estate changed in 2006) since 1946. The wines are produced using traditional grapes and styles of red, white and rosé as well as Super Tuscan blends using international grapes. The estate also produces fortified dessert wine, grappa and olive oil.
red berries, some spice and smoke, nice body
Would buy at a price
Nice berry aroma with some other subtle notes of spice and even something vegetal. Medium body, smooth texture and flavor of tart cherries all the way to the finish. Very nice for $12.
A perfectly average Tuscan wine. A good table wine. I couldn't find any fault with it and enjoyed it but it did not exhibit significantly more character than a straw basket chianti. It's a good buy for the price.
Three and a half glasses

This wine boasts aromas of saddle leather and black cherries, with just a hint of medical tape. On the palate, the flavors remain true, with cherries and leather predominating, and a slight creaminess. Finishes tart and a bit one-dimensionally fruity, but this is a nice entry-level Sangiovese with good varietal character.
A soft red, boasting black cherry, blackberry and spice notes. Tails off a little on the finish. Drink now through 2014.
This fruity, made-to-quaff Sangiovese has some earthy, mineral notes along with black fruit and full but non-aggressive tannins. Hints of cocoa and licorice add some complexity to what is otherwise a simple, fruity wine. In most ways it's similar to Beaujolais.
Antinori is a world famous producer of Tuscan wines, their history going back literally centuries. The Villa Antinori is the estate where the Chianti Classico wines have been produced for many years. This wine is a natural progression from their Chianti Classico. As the Antinoris recognized how non-native grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah raised the level of quality of their wine they started blending more and more and finally could no longer use the DOC designation and so it became a Super Tuscan IGT. But the quality they’ve reached is exceptional, especially as they’ve experimented more with aging in small oak barrels. This 2008 scored 90 points in the Wine Advocate who said "The 2008 Villa Antinori comes across as richer, darker and weightier than the 2007 tasted alongside it. Black cherries, smoke, licorice and tar are some of the notes that emerge from this powerful entry-level red. A long, intense finish rounds things out nicely. Villa Antinori is predominantly Sangiovese, with some Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2014."
This blend of Sangiovese and Merlot is a brilliant ruby red color, with intense fresh fruit aromas and pleasant floral notes. The finish sweet tannins and pleasant, lingering fruit.
