What to Expect

Sangiovese's claim to fame is its role as the heart of Chianti, Brunello and many Super Tuscan wines though it is gaining ground as a varietal wine around the globe. When grown in a suitable location the grape's soft tannins, succulent acidity and moderately intense cherry and herb flavors make Sangiovese very easy to drink as well as supremely versatile at the dinner table.

Rating: 17/20 - As reviewed by Jancis Robinson Sangiovese 100% 14 mths in barrels and barriques, 12 mths in bottle Exceptionally dark. Very modern oakiness on the nose. Quite intense but definitely different. Rather sweet and voluptuous. Very heady and flattering but extremely distinctive. Fine tannins on the finish. The acidity seems a bit swamped by all that rapturous fruit.

Badia a Passignano Riserva is produced exclusively from the most highly selected Sangiovese grapes grown on the estate of the same name. Its goal is to reflect the unique relationship between a single variety and its perfect terroir home. This site has been inhabited for 2 millennia and has been renowned for its wine production for over 1,000 years. The black fruit, great density and concentrated flavors of Chianti Classico. Dried strawberries, roasted meats, olives, and floral aromas and flavors go beyond the norm for Chianti Classico to make a wine of extraordinary character and depth. Rich read more...

Ruby red color with garnet hues. Vibrant aromas of strawberry jam, raspberries and coffee. Mouth filling soft and well-balanced throughout the palate, and is an extremely stylish wine. The aromas of coffee and cocoa powder on the nose are reflected on the palate and the finish.
