Anselmi Capitel Croce 2015

Member Review by Sweetstuff:

TN: 2003 Anselmi I Capitelli Passito Bianco (Verona IGT); 12.5 pabv; WineCommune/JBuckley, $6/375 ml (retail more like $32).Full gold with a hint of green. Nose of smoke, leather, oatmeal with cream and honey, truffles, and dried marjoram and grasses leading into full-throttle perfectly ripe pineapple and orange or tangerine oil.Thickly sheeting full-bodied wine, with a powerful sweet and sour attack, and evidence of great energy. Sweet pineapple and orange juice notes, showing much more acidity than I expected, based on critic's notes. Shows intense presence on the finish.92/100, which is what I scored it once before, but is it worth another half-point just because it's so sexy? Yes, this wine went for six bucks on WineCommune, one of my best finds there. Mike and I bought a whole half-case. One corked bottle thus far. (92 pts.)

Capitel Croce 2005 - Tre Bicchieri/ Gambero Rosso presents the English and German version of Vini d'Italia 2008, the best-seller book about Italian wines that has become a mainstay for both professionals and wine-lovers. A unique opportunity to get know and to taste a wide selection of the best Italian wines.

/ Pretty aromas of apricot, white flowers, almond and hazelnut. Dense and ripe on the palate, with flavors of soft citrus fruits, pineapple, hazelnut and almond. This manages to be both fleshy and acidic without being at all disjointed. An impressively concentrated example of garganega. The name Soave doesn't appear on the label as Anselmi opted out of the association of Soave producers years ago, choosing to make wines of much greater concentration and richer mouth feel - very different in style from most other Soaves on the market.

Capitel Croce 2006 - 90 Points & Recommended Value, Wine Spectator/ This fine-tuned white delivers mature yet fresh aromas of honeyed citrus fruits, peach, flowers and mineral. Medium- to full-bodied, with a silky texture and a well-defined core of slightly off-dry fruit and lightly toasted almond.

Capitel Croce 2007 - 89 Points & Listed among Italy's Fines Values, Wine Advocate/ ... is an attractive, engaging Garganega. Apricots, peaches, minerals, smoke and spices come together beautifully as this nuanced, articulate wine opens up in the glass. A subtle yet inviting finish rounds things out in style... Listed among Italy's Finest Values

Top 30 Italian Wines Under $30/ Roberto Anselmi is a true rebel - he not only rides fast motorbikes but has turned the makeing of white wine in northeast Italy on its head with his emphasis on quality over quantity. His success is obvious in his interesting and complex Capitel Croce. It's redolent of ripe citrus fruits, and touched with highlights of spice, wood (not oak, but wood) and an intriguing minerality.

/ Shows nice mixed citrus fruit character - almost tropical - but this gets a bit yogurty on the palate. Fresh and clean, with bright acidity.
