Anselmi Capitel Croce 2009

Member Review by Sweetstuff:

TN: 2003 Anselmi I Capitelli Passito Bianco (Verona IGT); 12.5 pabv; WineCommune/JBuckley, $6/375 ml (retail more like $32).Full gold with a hint of green. Nose of smoke, leather, oatmeal with cream and honey, truffles, and dried marjoram and grasses leading into full-throttle perfectly ripe pineapple and orange or tangerine oil.Thickly sheeting full-bodied wine, with a powerful sweet and sour attack, and evidence of great energy. Sweet pineapple and orange juice notes, showing much more acidity than I expected, based on critic's notes. Shows intense presence on the finish.92/100, which is what I scored it once before, but is it worth another half-point just because it's so sexy? Yes, this wine went for six bucks on WineCommune, one of my best finds there. Mike and I bought a whole half-case. One corked bottle thus far. (92 pts.)

/ Pretty aromas of apricot, white flowers, almond and hazelnut. Dense and ripe on the palate, with flavors of soft citrus fruits, pineapple, hazelnut and almond. This manages to be both fleshy and acidic without being at all disjointed. An impressively concentrated example of garganega. The name Soave doesn't appear on the label as Anselmi opted out of the association of Soave producers years ago, choosing to make wines of much greater concentration and richer mouth feel - very different in style from most other Soaves on the market.

Capitel Croce 2005 - 89 Points, International Wine Cellar/ Bright gold-tinted yellow. Pear and spice on the nose, with complicating suggestions of apricot, almond and flint. Supple and smooth, with lemon, peach and vanilla flavors complemented by a hint of oak and a light saline quality. The long, creamy finish features a late note of vanilla. This was fermented and aged in small oak barrels.

Capitel Croce 2006 - 88 Points, eRobertParker.com/ The 2006 Capitel Croce is 100% Garganega aged in French oak. It reveals a honeyed expression of perfumed apricots with an additional layer of volume from the oak. This full-bodied white is best enjoyed over the next year or two.

Outstanding! Vanillin and spice aromas, a creamy texture, admirable finesse and complexity and great concentration and length. The Anselmi winery is located in Monteforte d Alpone, a small town nestled in the hills of Verona. The property extends to 70 hectares, situated on the highest slopes of the hills between Monteforte and Soave.Roberto Anselmi s uncompromising quality-over-quantity approach has helped redefine the image of northern Italian wines.Grapes: 100% GarganegaRegion: Italy / Veneto / Monteforte d AlponeMaker: Roberto AnselmiNotes: The Anselmi Capitel Croce exhibits a straw colour and subtle vanillin and spice aromas are noticeable in the aromatics, a creamy texture, admirable finesse and complexity and a surprisingly fat concentration and length.Serve: At 8-10c the elegant concentration of this wine makes it an ideal choice to partner flavoursome fish, poultry, goats cheese and green salads.ABV: 13%
