Annie's Lane Shiraz Clare Valley 2006
The fruit for this wine was sourced from premium vineyards across the Clare Valley region. The grapes were crushed and de-stemmed, and individual parcels were fermented separately in a range of fermenter s. After fermentation, the wines were pressed off the skins and then selected parcels were racked into oak for maturation. A small portion of the wine matured in tank to bring lifted fruit to the final blend. Prior to blending, each parcel was reassessed to confirm its suitability and quality for Annie's Lane Shiraz. The resulting 2006 Annie's Lane Shiraz displays aromas of blackberry, violets and spice. The palate is rich with excellent depth of berry fruit, balanced with subtle smoky oak. This elegant, medium bodied Shiraz finishes with long, silky tannins. Enjoy now or cellar for 5 to 7 years.
Annie Wayman was a legend in the Clare Valley. She could always be relied upon to bring along sandwiches and a warm drink to harvesters and pruners in the vineyard at the turn of the 20th century. One evening, Annie's horse and cart got bogged in a lane adjacent to one of the valley's best vineyards. Thus, Annie's Lane was born.
