Annie's Lane Riesling Clare Valley 2010
Annie Wayman was a legend in the Clare Valley. She could always be relied upon to bring along sandwiches and a warm drink to harvesters and pruners in the vineyard at the turn of the 20th century. One evening, Annie's horse and cart got bogged in a lane adjacent to one of the valley's best vineyards. Thus, Annie's Lane was born.
100% Riesling grown in predominately limestone soil. Star bright clarity with a pale greenish tinge of color. Very faint legs. Medium intensity on the nose with a predominance of citrus such as lemon, lime and also some green apple and and pear. I got plenty of minerality on the nose and the palate and a finish of wet stones along with little marzipan notes. The flavor intensity was medium, medium + acidity, medium long dry finish, medium weight body, well balanced, moderately complex and good quality overall. Not a style of wine I personally like to drink but I would recommend this for folks who like dry Rieslings. 3/5
I have never been a big fan of Riesling, but Annie's Lane changed my mind. Slight mineral flavors and a brightness from sniff to sip. Perfect for a summer evening on the patio.
