This is not your typical American watered down Pinot Gris. This is a well-crafted wine that has been lovingly made with respect to what the Pinot Gris varietal can offer. Don't let its pale yellow color fool you. Exhibiting cinnamon-pears, green apples and wet stone on the nose, it has a refreshing amount out of food friendly acidity and crisp feel in the mouth. The flavors include asian pears, citrus, peaches, with a hint of minerals and ripe peaches on the finish. I had this wine with a delicate melon salad with a light caesar dressing and a cucumber wrapped Ahi Tuna and rice cake. It was excellent with both exhibiting its softer citrus and minerality with the salad, and more of the tangy peaches, acidity and mineral with the Ahi Tuna rice cake. I would pair this with shellfish, roasted chicken, summer pasta dishes and Asian fare. The Anne Amie vineyards are situated in the mountains of the Oregon wine region of Yamhill -Carlton where 1.6 acres are dedicated to growing Pinot Gris, originally planted in 2000.

The 2008 Pinot Gris exhibits a touch of minerality accompanied by fragrant white peach and melon aromas. Crisp and vibrant on the palate, this savory effort will drink well for another 2-3 years. A sharp, lean Pinot Gris. With alcohol just under 14%, it still tilts toward the green side, with cucumber and Asian pear flavors, plenty of acid and sharpness in the finish. P.G. There's a sharp edge to the grapefruit flavors in this vibrant white. Drink now. 2,400 cases made. -HS

This youthful white needs time, but shows promise in its green apple scents and broad, fleshy middle palate toned by a firm, mineral finish. A well-structured gris for sipping on an August afternoon.

Winemaker's Notes:

Pale white-gold in color, the 2008 Pinot Gris enlivens the senses with aromas of citrus, crisp stone-fruits and wild flowers. The palate reveals impeccable balance and focus, bursting with bright lemon, grapefruit and satisfying hints of cream soda that is followed by a clean, elegant minerality characterizing our Estate Vineyards. Finishing bright and refreshing, hints of candied green apples linger, making the 2008 Pinot Gris a delightful match to shellfish, herb-roasted chicken and fine cheeses.
