Andrew Januik Stone Cairn 2011

External Review by Premier Wine & Spirits:

This is a separate, solo project, and I believe, his first release. A ripe, textured and straightforward effort, the 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon Stone Cairn (94% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc) exhibits smoky black fruits, licorice, toast and charred-earth-like aromas and flavors. Medium to full-bodied, sweetly fruity and textured, it’s a delicious, well-made 2011 that will have a decade or more of longevity.

This new offering is beautifully knit together, framing the ripe raspberry fruit with barrel spices, herbs and a streak of coffee grounds. Immediately appealing, it nonetheless has the weight and structure to be cellared until 2020–2022.
