What to Expect

The classic Bordeaux blends rely on either Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon for the bulk of the wine with additions of Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Malbec helping to add complexity, color, body and structure to the finished wine.

Winemakers Notes

"For now it is a wine of bearing with pure fruit flavors and good structure. The blend seemed to make itself. A wine with tremendous self-possession and charm." Winery notes

Editorial Reviews

darky almost opaque black tinged ruby - vanilla and green pepper explode from the glass, oaky smoky pipe tobaccy, balsamic vinear, cherry coke, baked plum, creme de cassis all follow - sweet attack, lots of red fruits, good acids and tons of soft tannins, medium full mouthfeel with a bit more obvious alcohol here, eucalyptus top not over the curranty fruit with notes of roast meat and vanilla, good if indistinct fruit with an abrupt finish that leaves tanin and alcohol evident. Good in it's style and not at all over blown yet still too much for me

The Champoux Vineyard, planted in 1972, is five miles from the Columbia River. Here, the cooling breezes of the Columbia River Gorge never cease, creating the perfect conditions for ripening grapes. Right now, this wine is showing many layers of intense flavors - notes of licorice, blackberry, and tobacco - but it will continue to evolve and be expressive for many years to come.

The 2003 was reated 93 by Parker and 92 by Steven Tanzer. The style is "dense and thick but with plenty of energy" (Tanzer)The saline mineralityh, a distinguishing feature of Washington Cabs, balances the very ripe fruit.
