Tasting Notes :The 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is showing even better than it did last year, which is not unusual when tasting the wines of Todd Anderson and Mac Sawyer. Dense ruby/purple to the rim, with the classic Pauillac-like nose of creme de cassis, cedar wood, a hint of tobacco leaf, and very subtle smoke, the wine displays charcoal and roasted herbs, full-bodied power, wonderfully sweet tannins, and a long, long finish. This is a 20- to 25-year wine that should just get better and better as it ages, but it is accessible enough to drink now.

Once the grapes are picked, which can take anywhere from three days to three weeks depending on the weather, they are crushed and the juice placed in large stainless steel tanks for fermentation. Fermentation is allowed to proceed until just the right amount of sugar has been converted to alcohol, at which point the young wine is separate from the remaining pomace of skins and sediment and racked into French oak barrels to age in the caves. Periodically, the barrels are racked over the course of two years to remove standing sediment prior to bottling, corking, labeling and packaging. Wonderful cassis and cranberry nose. Wonderful cab that needs a lot of time and is different with every taste. Dark and brooding with lots of tar. Still hot, but smooth with vanilla overtones. A great cab with a spectacular future.

Wine Advocate ReviewRated 95One of the more underrated Cabernet Sauvignons in Napa (and its not surprising that I feel the same way about their nearby neighbor, Seavey) is Andersons Estate Cabernet Sauvignon from no other place than ... the Conn Valley. The 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve has beautiful notes of licorice, incense, and a hint of tapenade intermixed with creme de cassis, smoke, and background graphite. A pure, rich wine that is more structured and restrained than the 2004, but with plenty of tannin and admirable concentration and depth, give this wine 2-4 years of bottle age and drink it over the next 25 years.Wine Tasting NotesDark ruby with almost a black-purple ring at the glass/wine interface. Wonderful aromas of spice, with vanilla, sweet oak and coffee. Very ripe blackberries. Well balanced between the acid, oak and fruit. Medium mouth feel, a sweet black tea with honey taste. Soft tannins and texture on the sides with a long finish that is smooth, not bitter. Long lingering aftertaste. Should be at its best 2012-2018.
