Anderson's Conn Valley Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley Estate Reserve 2003

Member Review by WineborkDotCom:

Exceedingly Bordeaux-like in texture and weight. Elegant and medium-bodied but with excellent depth and length. Coming into its golden era and ready to drink now. Generous cassis, tobacco, spice, and cedar aromas and flavors, long fruit-filled finish.

Once the grapes are picked, which can take anywhere from three days to three weeks depending on the weather, they are crushed and the juice placed in large stainless steel tanks for fermentation. Fermentation is allowed to proceed until just the right amount of sugar has been converted to alcohol, at which point the young wine is separate from the remaining pomace of skins and sediment and racked into French oak barrels to age in the caves. Periodically, the barrels are racked over the course of two years to remove standing sediment prior to bottling, corking, labeling and packaging. Wine cases are then stored in a specially designed, temperature controlled warehouse. Read less

Conn Valley's vineyards are situated east of St. Helena in the Napa Valley. Their holdings are divided into nine blocks. The soil, they say, is the same as the celebrated Rutherford Bench Densely colored with a many faceted aroma of black fuits and mineral notes, and agenerous and lasting palate impression which will satisfy Cabernet lovers.

The 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve appears to be superior to the 2002, perhaps even better than the 2001. That tends to go against the rule of thumb when evaluating Napa's 2003 Cabernets, but Conn Valley is a different micro-climate and growing... Robert Parkers Wine Advocate.
