Ancient Peaks Cabernet Sauvignon Paso Robles Margarita Vineyard 2010
The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon offers warm aromas of dusty black cherry and plum with hints of cocoa and anise. Dense, layered flavors of black currant and blackberry are accented by notes of vanilla, tobacco and spice. Plush tannins glide into a lengthy, luscious finish. The layered black fruit flavors and complex nuances of the 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon present a fine match for herb-crusted filet mignon, veal roast with mushrooms, and rack of lamb with rosemary butter.
Editorial Reviews for Ancient Peaks Cabernet Sauvignon Paso Robles Margarita Vineyard
This comes in a big, heavy attractive bottle suitable for gift giving! Creamy and toasty at first with some espresso foam notes and gentle oak spice over a base of lightly minty black currant fruit. This is big and rich, yet focused and tense in the mouth with nice layered black currant and black cherry fruit framed by lightly toasty, spicy oak. The fruit stays fresh yet intense right through the moderately long finish. This is not elegant or refined but it is very well balanced and intense with delicious fruit. 89pts

Very solid Cab. A bit young and tight out of the gate, but after a couple of hours in the decanter it opened up very nicely. Very well balanced, with a nice nose and tannins. Had this with a nice grilled fillet and it was outstanding.

Rating: 86/100 - As reviewed by Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine (www.cgcw.com) in the August 2010 issue. Bringing together touches of preserved red cherries with vanilla bean sweetness, a whiff of coconut and touches of herbs, this unusual blending of varieties gets altogether tannic and blunt in the latter palate. Its style will appeal to fans of big wines, but its price may not.Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine aging recommendation: Drinkable now. Further bottle aging can improve this wine.

Rating: 83/100 - As reviewed by Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine (www.cgcw.com) in the August 2010 issue. Oddly confected, slightly candied and laced with elements of pepper and dried brush, this comparatively hollow wine wanders well away from anything resembling clear Cabernet character and is so dull that it fails even as a simple quaff.Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine aging recommendation: Drinkable now. Unlikely to improve with further aging.
