Anciano Gran Reserva 10 Year Old 2001
Not particularly interesting or remarkable, but fine for a weeknight.
Notes of spices, cigar tobacco, red licorice, and black cherry compote lead to a silky wine in the mouth.
I liked this better the second time I tried it. Notes of spices, raisins, cigar tobacco, red licorice, and black cherry compote lead to leather, coffee, dried sour cherries, and a touch of herbs in the mouth with a medium weight.
Awful. Offensive nose, went straight down the drain. Acidic, completely watery, did not feel held together at all.
I don't get it. Bought this at Costco for $7.99 expecting great things--I think RP gave it a decent grade, and snooth reviewer seems favorable. Left open for a hour three days ago, stored with air pumped out, this wine still is thin, acidic, and plonky, just as it was when first opened. I think it's slightly complex, but so out of balance that I dislike it. Amazingly bad for a 10-year-old wine--must have been really awful 10 years ago.
