Anam Cara Riesling Chehalem Mountains 2009
Our off-dry Riesling originates from one acre on the steepest, coolest section of our property. The back label carries the new International Riesling Foundation Taste Profile. This indicates the perceived sweetness in a Riesling, calculated by balancing the residual sugar, total acidity and pH in the wine. This is a voluntary option, and we’re excited to be among the first in Oregon to use it.
Each of our wines is created from the beautiful Nicholas Estate vineyard, located in Oregon's Chehalem Mountains AVA. The 35 acre vineyard is certified L.I.V.E. and Salmon Safe and consists of 5 blocks of Pinot Noir (Pommard and Dijon clones 114, 115, 667 and 777) and one acre each of Riesling and Gewurztraminer. Two acres each of Wadenswil Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Riesling came on line with the 2011 harvest.
Editorial Reviews for Anam Cara Riesling Chehalem Mountains
Smoky and earthy on the nose with a touch of toasty nut meat and a hint of porcini spice over dried lime peels. Nice tension in the mouth, which carries on with a slightly earthy edge to the rich citrus tones. There are nice floral tones in the mouth and an edge of persimmon on the moderately long finish. The sugar here is barely perceptible, just adding roundness in the mouth. 88pts

Rating: 89/100 - As reviewed by Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine (www.cgcw.com) in the September 2010 issue. This slightly sweet offering is so well-balanced that one hardly notices its modest sugars and focuses instead on its floral aroma redolent of honeysuckle with a light suggestion of pears. Slightly rounded at entry and firm across the palate, the wine is fresh and inviting and will pair well with pan-grilled white fishes like trout or Dover sole.Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine aging recommendation: Drinkable now. Further bottle aging can improve this wine.
Food Pairings for Anam Cara Riesling Chehalem Mountains
Immediately reminiscent of bright, golden delicious apples, ripe pears and cantaloupe melon on the palate. Aromas of Meyer lemon, honeysuckle and fresh peaches with quince. There’s an elegant creaminess in the texture and the fresh acidity inherent in each of our Rieslings creates a fresh, lovely, balanced and softly-crisp wine.
