Iridesse Wines Anam Cara(2001)

This wine truly expresses what we think of as Iridescence of Flavors. A perfume of fresh berries, lavender, and spice rises off of the deep dark purple nectar. What do you taste? Is it those little wild strawberries you find by the side of the road? Isn’t there also a bit of interesting, slightly musky, leathery richness? That big jammy fruit core comes from the bit of hand-selected treasures from 108 year-old Zinfandel vines in Calistoga at the top of Napa Valley. Classic Sangiovese acid finishes this wine with Tuscan elegance and a bit of lavender that comes the Mt. Veeder appellation of Napa read more...

This is a great red blend that requires a little time out of the bottle to become even better! I enjoyed it without any food on a hot summer day - and in big mouthfuls. This is a wiwne that loves to be gulped rather than sipped. When I opened this deep red, almost purple wine, my nose got a rush of cherry bark and sweet young strawberry. There was a definite alcohol twang as well, but this mellowed with time spent in the glass.

I love this red for many reasons. One is the complex taste. It has a lot to offer from the nose to the finish. Another thing I love about this wine which makes me purchase it more often than other comparable reds is the story.

This wine is called anam cara or 'soul mate'. I love the story of it being the first wine the wine makers made together. I give as a gift for anniversaries and weddings. It is also a perfect start to a romantic evening with that special someone. I order by the case so I always have some around for that last minute special guest or gift.

Enjoy

Super Tuscan + zin basically, by which i mean sangiovese and cabernet. This wine was aged for 5 years in neutral oak and has a thick earthy leathery nose. Lighter fruits in the mouth, surprisingly so. Things like blueberries alongside the more expected spice and leather. Its a high acid wine so food friendly. Crisp finish for a red.
