Amon Ra Ben Glaetzer Sra Barossa Valley South Australia 2008

External Review by The Wine Buyer:

2008 is the 8th release of Amon-Ra shiraz and the smallest volume since the tiny 2003 vintage - even lower than the 2007 make. To decrease the total make of Amon-Ra once again has been essential to maintain the quality of the wine. The strict fruit selections we have made in this vintage have been rigorous and uncompromising. We are always willing to sacrifice quantity for quality. The key to Amon-Ra shiraz is balancing the extraction rather than maximizing it as the fruit as such expression that we aim to preserve the characteristics of the vineyard rather than dominate them. At release, the 2008 Amon-Ra is more forward and lifted than the 2007. The difficulty this vintage was harnessing the intensity of fruit, and balancing different levels of ripeness. Harvesting key parcels of excellent fruit before the heat spike was crucial. The Amon-Ra has captured the intensity of fruit of this vintage, and retains its trademark elegance, finesse and balance. Cellaring: 15 + years.

Winemaking patriarch Colin Glaetzer established his own label to create wines he’s passionate about - limited quantities of benchmark Barossa Valley reds. It is the pinnacle of Colin's 30-year career with achievements such as his creation of the revered Barossa Valley Estates E & E Black Pepper Shiraz. The birth of Glaetzer Wines also signalled a new era for Colin’s family which boasts more than its fair share of winemakers. The clan includes Colin, his oenology-trained wife Judith, twin brother/winemaker John, and five winemakers among the couple's three sons and their wives! The first Glaetzers settled in the Barossa Valley in 1888 after emigrating from Brandenburg, Germany. The family left Germany on board the Nord-Deutscher Lloyd steamer “Habsburg” and took seven weeks to reach their final destination of Port Adelaide. From here they settled in a country town called Nuriootpa in the Barossa Valley where they started their new life in Australia. The family were some of the earliest recorded viticulturalists in the Barossa Valley and Clare Valley and the current generation is firmly entrenched in the family wine business. Read less

Weingut: Glaetzer WinesLand: AustralienRegion: Barossa ValleyRebsorte: 100% ShirazInhalt: 0,75 lAlkoholgehalt: 14,5 Vol.%Säuregehalt: 7,1 g/lRestsüße: 0,8 g/lFassreife: in Barriques gereift (15 Monate)Lagerfähigkeit: mindestens 15 Jahre ab Jahrgang Rotwein > Australien > Barossa Valley
